ITINERARY
Day 01

Cusco - EcoManu tourist lodge.

Early in the morning we will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco, to start our journey through Andean mountains, beautiful landscapes, rural folkloric communities such as Paucartambo and Ninamarca (chullpas or funerary tombs) that belong to the pre-Inca LUPACAS culture. Then we climb the last mountain to reach Acjanaco, entrance to the MANU NATIONAL PARK, where we descend to the lush cloud forest, which houses a variety of flora and fauna. Being an ideal place for epiphytes, orchids, bromeliads, etc. It is there where we will explore the cloud forest and can appreciate the National bird of Peru, the colorful Cock of the Rock in its ritual mating dance, as well as toucans, trogons, quetzals, monkeys and hopefully the South American spectacled bear (Tremantus ornatos). Continuing our day’s excursion we head to the Patria valley, Pilcopata small villages of Manu.

In the mid-afternoon we will visit the sanctuary of pica flores, there we will observe dozens of species of bright creatures, the hummingbirds, multicolored birds that are attracted by the fruits, at the feeders and on the roads we will observe groups of monkeys and sloths.

At the end of the day we head to the tourist port of Atalaya, where our motorized boat awaits us to cross the Madre de Dios River towards the EcoManu lodge. Overnight in our comfortable rooms, dinner and free time to enjoy some cold drinks.

Swimming and fishing in the rivers and using the hammocks at the lodge is free and safe for all guests.

Day 02

EcoManu lodge.

In the morning wake up to the sound of birdsong and the lush Amazon rainforest, it is time to enjoy our healthy breakfast to explore the lush Amazon forest through the different trails and appreciate the giant rubber trees, tonillos, ficus, which are home to groups of capuchin monkeys, woolly monkeys, howler monkeys and dozens of species of birds such as colorful parrots, parrots, woodpeckers, etc.

In the mid-afternoon we head to our exclusive observation tower, a nice platform in the middle of the forest and giant trees, from where we will observe and photograph families of macaws, toucans, cotingas, trogons, flycatchers, beautiful tanagers and groups of monkeys.

When darkness arrives it is time to prepare for a small and fabulous night activity, with the help of the guides and flashlights we can find owls, night monkeys, olingos, armadillos and on the banks of the river and wetlands within the forest we can observe small caimans, aquatic snakes, varieties of frogs, tarantulas and hundreds of nocturnal insects.

Dinner and overnight at our comfortable EcoManu lodge.

Day 03

EcoManu Lodge.

Very early in the morning we will board our boat to go to the small colpa (clay wall containing mineral salts) very important of the place, where many noisy parakeets, parrots and small green macaws ingest the clay as part of their diet.

After this fantastic show, we will enjoy our healthy breakfast outdoors on the banks of the Madre de Dios River. Continuing our expedition in the Amazon we will head to the important Machuwasi oxbow lake, with the help of the telescope and binoculars we will observe a great variety of lake birds such as herons, sparrow hawks, ducks, hoatzins, oropendolas, families of capybaras (the largest rodent in the world) and hopefully an impressive boa or anaconda. Return to EcoManu lodge for lunch.

In the afternoon visit the mammal clay lick, a very special place in the Amazon rainforest. After a 35 minute walk in the middle of the forest we will arrive at the hide and as the day turns to darkness a truly fascinating and unforgettable experience begins.

The hide is a wooden platform more than 4 meters high, it is perfectly camouflaged among the trees, located in front of the mammal lick, there we will observe the mythical Amazonian tapir, peccaries, deer and hopefully the largest feline in South America Jaguar (Pantera onca). The observation platform includes mosquito nets and mats to wait for the arrival of the mammals.

Walks or night activities are possible every night, which will be at the disposal and organization of our guides.

Day 04

EcoManu Lodge – Cusco.

Early in the morning it is time to pack our luggage for the return to the city of Cusco and after a typical breakfast, head to our boat for the transfer to the port of Atalaya and from there by bus back to the Andes. On the way we will have interesting stops to appreciate once again the famous Cock of the Rock, quetzals, coca plantations, etc. Arrival time in the city of Cusco at 17:00 p.m. approx.

If the group has a travel connection in the afternoon, it is possible to arrive at 2:00 p.m. or even earlier.
