Our trip takes you deep into the jungle, at the exact time and place. The best time to see this big cat is during the dry season from April to December, the jaguars are seen in their mating season and when the small rivers and lakes begin to dry up and the dams are concentrated in these spaces, they are also seen before the beginning of the torrential rainy season. In this fantastic trip we can see giant otters, black caimans, different groups of monkeys, anacondas, capybaras and tapirs.

ITINERARY
Day 01

Cusco – EcoManu lodge

Early in the morning we will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco, to start our journey through Andean mountains, beautiful landscapes, rural folkloric communities such as Paucartambo and Ninamarca (chullpas or funerary tombs) that belong to the pre-Inca LUPACAS culture. Then we climb the last mountain to reach Acjanaco, entrance to the MANU NATIONAL PARK, where we descend to the lush cloud forest, which houses a variety of flora and fauna. Being an ideal place for epiphytes, orchids, bromeliads, etc.. It is there where we will explore the cloud forest and can appreciate the National bird of Peru, the colorful Cock of the Rock in its ritual mating dance, as well as toucans, trogons, quetzals, monkeys and hopefully the South American spectacled bear (Tremantus ornatos). Continuing our excursion of the day we head to the valley of Patria, Pilcopata small villages of Manu.

In the afternoon we will visit the hummingbird sanctuary, where we will observe dozens of species of bright creatures, the hummingbirds, multicolored birds that are attracted by the fruits at the feeders and on the roads we will observe groups of monkeys and sloths.

At the end of the day we head to the tourist port of Atalaya, where our motorized boat awaits us to cross the Madre de Dios River towards the EcoManu lodge. Overnight in our comfortable rooms, dinner and free time to enjoy some cold drinks.

Day 02

EcoManu lodge – Dorado Amazon lodge.

In the morning wake up under the song of the birds and the exuberant Amazon jungle, it is time to enjoy our healthy breakfast to explore the lush Amazon forest through the different paths and appreciate the giant rubber trees, tonillos, ficus, which are home to groups of capuchin monkeys, From our exclusive observation tower in the middle of giant trees, we will observe and photograph families of macaws, toucans, cotingas, trogons, flycatchers and beautiful tanagers, an excellent place for photographers and birdwatchers.

Return to the lodge to prepare our luggage and continue our excursion to the deepest part of Manu. To the Dorado lodge in our 4×4 vehicles. On the way we will make interesting stops to observe families of red howler monkeys, toucans, macaws and hundreds of butterflies.

There are not many intact and remote jungles left in the world that are home to tribes isolated from the outside world, Manu is one of these few privileged Amazonian jungles, where live nomadic tribes who live by gathering and hunting, is the MASHCO PIRO tribe, who currently show up on the banks of the Madre de Dios River is a great opportunity to observe them.

Overnight at the comfortable Dorado lodge.

Swimming and fishing in the rivers and using the hammocks at the lodge is free and safe for all visitors.

When darkness arrives it is time to prepare for a fabulous little activity on the trails of the lodge where we can find owls and a good number of nocturnal creatures. Night walks or activities are possible every night, which will be at the disposal of our guides’ organization.

Day 03

Dorado Amazon lodge – Casa Matsigenka lodge.

Early in the morning we start our excursion with a visit to the impressive clay lick of parrots and small macaws, where we will observe hundreds of these beautiful colorful birds of the Amazon. Return to the dorado lodge to enjoy a healthy breakfast.

Continuing our expedition excursion we will board our boat to follow the course of the calm waters of the Manu River to visit the Limonal Control Post, where we will check in and enter the Manu Reserved Zone, the heart of the biological diversity of Amazonian flora and fauna. In the course of the trip we will carefully find white caimans and huge black caimans sunning themselves on the sandbanks, hundreds of turtles called “Taricayas” on the logs on the river bank and the largest rodent in the world, capybara; At the same time parrots, colorful macaws, hundreds of nightjars mimicking on the logs and hopefully the impressive jaguar (Pantera onca) the third largest feline in the world, is observed on the banks of the Manu River waiting for prey approaching the site or sunbathing in the morning.

In the mid-afternoon it is time to visit the lake cocha Otorongo and we are located in the observation tower of 30 meters high to see the entire breadth of the lake and appreciate the giant emerging trees of cedar, mahogany, ceibas and the famous rubber trees or rubber. This is home to many mammals that are occasionally encountered, such as capuchin monkeys and black spider monkeys.

At 17:00 hours we arrive at our typical and comfortable lodge Matsigenka house where the families of the lodge are waiting for us to drive us to our accommodations and who will show us all the infrastructure and services for a pleasant stay.

Day 04

Casa Matsigenka lodge - Reserved Zone.

It is the most moving place for the sighting of wild flora and fauna of the Amazon. It is time to head through the primary forest towards the most famous lake of Manu; Lake Salvador or Salvador oxbow lake and travel on a catamaran that will allow us to find a great variety of birds such as the Hoatzin, duck, snake, toucans, woodpeckers, macaws, eagles, the inevitable spider monkeys, emperor monkeys, black caimans and the great family of giant otters (Pteronura Brasiliensis). This endangered species is seen most of the day swimming, fishing, eating and playing with each other on the floating logs of the lake. After this fantastic sighting we will return to our lodge to enjoy an exquisite lunch typical of Manu.

In mid-afternoon and following our plan to search for the largest feline in America, it is time to board our boat to navigate upstream to the deepest part of the Manu Reserved Zone and with the help of our expert guide and local collaborators we will be able to observe the jaguar.

Day 05

Casa Matsigenka lodge – Terra Manu lodge.

In the morning we start to slowly descend the currents of the impressive Manu River in our boat, having one more great opportunity to encounter the Jaguar and different stationary birds that are occasionally seen on the banks of the Manu River; osprey, jabiru, stork, roseate spoonbill and hopefully an impressive anaconda.

Once we arrive at the junction of the Manu River and Madre de Dios we say goodbye to the Manu River and the Manu National Park Reserved Zone.

Then we head towards the Madre de Dios River to continue our fascinating adventure against the current of the Madre de Dios River to the port of Boca Manu. There our 4×4 vehicle awaits us to transport us to the Terra Manu lodge. Overnight and dinner at the lodge.

Day 06

Terra Manu lodge – Cusco.

After a healthy breakfast in the morning, we will head to Machuwasi Lake, a very special place implemented with rafts to tour the lake and photograph beautiful birds. Hoatzin, camungos, paucares, black-crowned herons and families of capybaras.

After this fantastic activity, we will return slowly to the city of Cusco, on the way we will make some interesting stops to enjoy again the colorful cock of the rock and the cloud forest. Arrival time at 18:00 pm.
