After a typical breakfast prepared by the family with organic products, it will be time to say goodbye to the guardians of the Amazon for the time and experience shared in the home of the Matsigenka and Huachpaeri peoples. We will return to the village of Pilcopata and from there head to Atalaya river port and then bay boat to Eco Manu Lodge.
On the way to the port, we will visit the Pico de Oz hummingbird garden. Thanks to the great diversity of native flowering plants and feeding areas, dozens of species of hummingbirds and other bird species are attracted, including the Austral Parakeet, the White-crowned Night Heron, the White-throated Tanager, the Honeycreeper, the Dachnis, the King vulture, etc. through the trails we may observe groups of monkeys and sloths.
In the afternoon, we begin exploring the lush Amazon rainforest along its various trails, admiring the giant rubber trees, tonillo trees, and ficus trees, which are home to groups of capuchin monkeys, woolly monkeys, howler monkeys, and dozens of bird species, including colorful parrots, parakeets, woodpeckers, toucans, and more. These can be observed from our exclusive observation tower, a beautiful platform high above the forest.
As darkness falls, it’s time to prepare for a short but fantastic nighttime activity. With the help of our guides and flashlights, we can spot owls, night monkeys, olingos, and armadillos. Along the riverbanks and in the wetlands within the forest, we can observe small caimans, water snakes, various frogs, tarantulas, and hundreds of nocturnal insects. Dinner and overnight stay at our comfortable EcoManu Lodge.
