BUTTERFLY NATURAL GARDEN

BUTTERFLY GARDEN

WELCOME

To the butterfly paradise, Peru possesses the greatest diversity of butterflies of any other country in the world, up to 2000. More than 3800 species were recorded, the vast majority of these butterflies are found on the eastern slopes of the Andes in Cusco and the Amazon plains of Manu.

In Peru, Manu National Park is one of the most biodiverse natural areas in the world. This fascinating region is surrounded by one of the most important ecosystems, the Andean páramo, cloud forest, upper Amazon rainforest, and Amazonian plain. This magical region is home to more than 1307 varieties of butterflies, observed along the famous Manu Road and EcoManu Lodge.

As part of its sustainable ecotourism and conservation plans and projects, EcoManu Lodge is developing a beautiful and practical open-air natural butterfly garden. It features hundreds of host plants, medicinal plants, and ornamental flowers from the region. The design includes pathways through wetlands, bamboo forests, primary forests, water sources, and riverbanks. Feeders and dry spaces are created for their chrysalises.

Project Objectives:

  • Recognize these large lepidopterans as important pollinators for the genetic diversity of plants.
  • Promote conservation practices among primary, secondary, and university students through guided recognition and identification programs.
  • Provide a friendly and safe space for butterflies.Offer an accessible space for photographers, biologists, researchers, and families to enjoy this privileged habitat of these vibrant creatures.
